From the Commander

Hello fellow Legionnaires, Ladies of the Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion.  It’s that time again, so here we go with another newsletter.  I hope that everyone is well.

I wish that I could say that the situation of the new post home has changed, but it is still the same.  We are still trying to acquire a loan from a bank.  I will be retired on July 1 and hope to remedy this situation soon.

I still feel that I need to have something to fill the 2nd and 4th week-ends of each month so that our members may a good time.  If any member has any suggestions please feel free to make them.

Our monthly New York strip steak dinner on the first Saturday of the month is still going strong.  The price can’t be beaten at $10.00 a meal for a 10 once strip steak, potato, salad, vegetable and a role.  We still have our breakfast on the third Saturday with a dinner later that evening.  These functions are still making a profit for us.  Hope to see all of the membership join in on these dinners.  See page +++ for the Post calendar and these events.

The post is still doing well with bingo.  It is still going strong and is a profit maker.  We are still looking for additional help.  Please feel free to come out on Wednesday night and help or if you are a bingo player, come to play.  It is a fun night for all.

We have reached our goal to be a 100% gold post and during this month we will be starting to work on the membership for the 2012 year.  Hurry and get your membership in to be eligible for the Early Bird Dinner. If you have a friend or relative that is eligible to be a member and isn’t a member, work towards signing him or her up.  Also if they are eligible for the SAL squadron, sign them up also. And don’t forget your wives and/or daughters. The Auxiliary is always looking to enroll new members. If there are members that ride cycles, we need members there also.

Several Legion members just returned from helping with the American Legion Boys State and I want to thank all who helped in any way, be it by donations or working at the Jackson’s Mill during the week. As a counselor/athletic worker/photographer, I had a great time. The 27 new senior high school boys from Berkeley County had a great time and learned much about the Government and Americanism. The same goes for all that helped with Girls State. A special thanks to Brian for all that he and the riders did for Boys and Girls State.

I will still continue to have an open mind for any suggestions that anyone might have.  A message can be left for me at robert.speals@wvlegion.org or you may call the post home at 304-267-6100 to leave a message with the bartender on duty.  This is to reiterate, we still need any e-mail addresses so that we may continue to send this and any other newsletters or correspondences.  Please send your e-mail addresses to paul.turner@wvlegion.org or call the legion at 304-267-6100 and leave your e-mail address.

I hope that I’ve shed some light on things that may be on your minds.  Please,  I’m still open for your thoughts and suggestions so don’t be shy and communicate with us.
